Sticky Fingers

Showing signs of neglect.
Getting dusty. Faded.
Color losing it's hopefulness.
Turning shades of jaded.

Pretty for no reason,
is ribbon candy left unsavored.
Taffy with no give.
Sours quite unflavored.

Climb atop a counter,
balance on a chair.
Do whatever you feel you must.
Unguarded candy is quite rare.

Stretch your hand to grab ahold
a brightly tinted lolly.
It's worth every ounce of risk.
Disregard the folly!

Lick the sugar coating.
Sticky fingers are such fun!
If you think you're surely caught,
drop the evidence and run.

One would never notice
unnatural color on your lips.
The happy green or purple
from those many Pixy Stix.

Pop rocks that do not snap.
It can not help but make me sad.
Put your hand inside the candy jar.
Be a naughty lad!

Extract a sweet tart, pucker up.
Don't deprive yourself.
What good is candy in a jar
stuck high up on a shelf?
