Certainly it could not be her beautiful face he was seeing, but the result of desperate yearning. A simple vision of desire clouding his reality. Yet, when the waking dream did not fade but drew ever nearer, he hastily stepped back into the shadows. His heart pounded mercilessly as uncertainty gripped him. She was so close now, he imagined he'd see the emerald green of her eyes if she would happen to look up. He could not just let his happiness pass him by. He rashly reached out to seize it. To seize her. He would not go another day an incomplete mess of a man. As soon as his trembling fingers made contact, righteous indignation boiled to the surface. His hand wound through her hair and he dragged her roughly toward his hiding spot.
Her terrified scream cut short as she came eye to eye with the man who had pulled her into the alley. Her slight hesitation of recognition allowed him the upper hand. Had he let go, she would not have moved. She was rooted to the moment, held immobile by his intensity. By the tangled emotions assailing her consciousness. She found herself thrust ungently against the nearest building. The cold upon her flesh unyielding as she was pressed into the harsh, unforgiving concrete. Blood welling in the wake of his carelessness, unnoticed.
His callused hand barely restrained as he gripped her neck making her nervous swallow near impossible. He would not lose her again. Could not without losing himself. He wanted to shake her as he recalled the way she left him wanting and the years of unanswered questions.
She had made him the promise of forever.
Her sorrow visible as she realized the years she has wasted with her impetuous desertion. This man had loved her. Utterly. It had terrified her and she ran without once looking back. Sobbing now, each tear leaving a trail of regret. Every shuddered breath an apology. She knows fulfillment begins in this moment. She is ready.
He pins her with the weight of his stare and snags the hem of her skirt. With a deliberateness born of pure intent, he begins to bare her, oblivious to whomever may pass.
Her eyes flutter closed, she knows naught but passion. The cool air replaced by his hot breath as he is brought to his knees.
Regret now a foreign feel as she lets familiar sensations flood her.
There will be no running away. She will fulfill her promise.
